Every year, during the Japanese garden’s cherry blossom season, the Orto Botanico of Sapienza University offers its visitors the pleasure to stroll in the park under these exquisite trees and observe the stunning beauty of the full bloom.
In Japan, the cherry blossom viewing is a well-established tradition called Hanami: Hana=flower Mi= viewing. Japanese gardens are peaceful and calming spaces perfectly blent with the surrounding environment. At its heart, there is a receptive and interactive attitude towards the natural world that leads to harmonious solutions based on the principle of asymmetry. The main element is the water that flows along artificial canals and creates two little lakes.
In the garden there is no presence of utilitarian plants, to respect the precise rules and conventions based on the Japanese philosophy of life. The Japanese Garden of the Orto Botanico of Rome in the heart of the city, between Trastevere district and Gianicolo Hill.
The ancient Japanese custom of Hanami returns for their sixth edition of “Hanami all’Orto Botanico” to celebrate the splendid cherry blossom that characterizes the Japanese Garden during this period, with the patronage of the Italy-Japan Foundation.
This year’s edition is dedicated to the wonders and emotion aroused. A simple observation of nature caught in its peak of beauty, but which is destined to disappear. Along the path leading to the Botanical Garden you will find creations made by students of the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome.

Entrance will be possible only by reservation and strongly recommended to buy online to guarantee access and avoid long queues. Groups will enter every 10/15 minutes, the duration of the route is about an hour.
Due to coronavirus and the consequent and inevitable containment measures, therefore the entrance to the Botanical Garden Museum will be contingent and the visit to the Japanese Garden will be carried out in organized groups , guaranteeing the conditions of distancing.
