A trip between history, art and geology in a landscape shaped by the Etruscans and dominated by the Medieval town of Orvieto. A day dedicated to the discovery of Italy’s most famous cliff and a city of art that is also a treasure made of many beauties. Our loop-trail walk will start directly at the train station, from which we’ll easily reach the top of the isolated volcanic “rupe” by means of a comfortable and silent cable railway.
After a short visit of the Medieval fortress that overlooks endless landscapes, the first part of our hike will take place just below the steep natural walls of the cliff. Many surprises are waiting for us along the way, such as a stunning Etruscan necropolis built as a “town of the dead”. Many more treasures in the city centre too: the Cathedral with its beautiful façade, the Medieval buildings, the astonishing church of San Giovenale.
