Lake Albano is a small volcanic crater lake in the Alban Hills of Lazio, at the foot of Monte Cavo, 20 km southeast of Rome. Castel Gandolfo, overlooking the lake, is the site of the Papal Palace of Castel Gandolfo. It hosted the canoeing and rowing events of the 1960 Summer Olympic Games that were held in Rome
Meeting point: Restaurant  Le Fratte Ignoranti at 10.00Â
By train: Train to Albano Laziale. Once you arrive at the Albano Laziale train station, go to the restaurant Le Fratte Ignoranti  meeting point at 10:00  – The train takes about an hour or so in order to be on time. It is better to get the train from the terminal at 8.30 am
Driving or carshare: Park close to the restaurant Le Fratte Ignoranti where we will start the trail in the forest (path n 511). The route is well signaled, for the most part it is inside the wood with very few and short uncovered sections. Exited near the restaurant “La Foresta”, crossed the “via dei Laghi” and entered back into the woods until we intercepted the spectacular sacred road – “via Sacra”, and continued to walk along it till the top. We will take the same route to come back.
The itinerary is very nice and easy to do
