Netflix takes home in Italy: New headquarters in Rome
The streaming giant opens its Italian offices in Rome, 30 team members from Amsterdam will move to Rome!
Netflix lands in Italy. No, we are not referring to the fact that the streaming service par excellence begins to “broadcast” in our country (something that has been happening for a few years now), but to the fact that the Reed Hastings company has decided to open a branch ” physics ”in Italy.
And, a bit against the trend compared to other large companies that they open their doors in Rome instead of Milan. Rome, however, was anticipated by the newspaper Il Messaggero and only later confirmed by Kelly Luegenbiehl, vice president of Netflix assigned to the “Original” series for Europe and Africa.
Netflix already has a team dedicated to the Italian market, with responsible for programming, marketing and multimedia rights. Except that, until now, it was located at the Dutch headquarters in Amsterdam.
Why Netflix chose Rome as its Italian location?
As mentioned, the reasons that led the Netflix leaders to choose Rome as the Italian location are historical (but not only). “With its cinematic history and its thriving and varied creative community, Rome represents the ideal city for our office,” reads a note released by Netflix to announce the “landing” in Rome. The relationship between Netflix and the capital, on the other hand, is very deep and goes beyond film production.
Here, for example, series like “Suburra” and “Baby” were born (and filmed), which have also achieved international success and, for a couple of years, Netflix has been sponsoring the Christmas decorations of the Capitoline center (in particular , the decoration of the tree in Piazza Venezia).
The biggest revenues, in fact, are determined by the increase in subscription costs, while the growth of new subscribers undergoes a slight slowdown and stops (slightly) below analysts’ estimates. And with the arrival of new competitors (Disney + lands in Europe, including Italy, at the end of March 2020) the situation could become even more critical.
